Have you been asked to work the "house" for a show?

Below you will find the typical jobs for any show night.

Prepare yourself and know what is expected of you.

Ushers (2 for smaller audience shows) (4-6 for larger audience shows)

  1. Be at the door no later than 45 minutes before show time.  No patrons are to enter until ½-hour before show.
  2. Open auditorium doors ½-hour before show AFTER checking with the Tech Director to find out if they are done with preparations.
  3. Take and tear tickets from each person.  Half of the ticket is returned to patron and the other half is kept for MCT.  (Important for counting the number of people attending our show.)
  4. Hand one program that includes the ad book to each adult patron.*
  5. Offer each patron an MCT seat cushion. (Cushions are stored in boxes in the small room at the back of the auditorium.
  6. Tell patrons to watch their step and explain to that the floor has a slope as they enter the theater.
  7. If there are people that arrive after the show starts, tear their ticket, hand them a program, ask them to not walk in front of others watching the show.  Usher them in, if necessary.
  8. As intermission begins, exit the auditorium before the audience and open and secure doors with cords.
  9. Turn on lights in hallway.
  10. Help serve refreshments or sell raffle tickets if needed.
  11. Gather seat cushions from partons as they exit the auditorium and store them in their boxes. Boxes must be returned to the back room of the auditorium after the last show of the run.
  12. Pick up any trash in the auditorium after the show.

Set-up and Servers (2 people for small shows) (4-5 for larger shows)

1.       Mix lemonade and/or iced tea in 5-gallon jugs.  Add ice.  A pitcher should be made up for the cast.  Recipes will be provided.

2.       Coffee pot should be set up.  Turn coffee on soon after show starts.  This allows time for it to percolate and finish before intermission.

3.       Put table covers on the serving and raffle tables in hallway.

4.       Set out cups, napkins, sugar, creamer, stirrers, pretzels and cookies.   All should be displayed in a neat way.  Put out the “Donations accepted” signs.

5.       Before intermission starts begin to fill up some cups so you have a head start.

6.       Serve all drinks to patrons.  They shouldn’t be operating the coffee or cold drink dispensers.

7.       After the audience returns to theater, clean up and put away all items from the table.  If it is the last show of the weekend, the tables must be moved into the green room.

8.       If it is the first night of a weekend show and there is cold drink that is left over, it can be saved it for the next day with ice in the cooler.  Coffee gets thrown out.

9.       Everything should be put in the cabinets in the green room after each show.  Ice can be left in the freezer from 1st to 2nd night but not during the week.

10.    Make sure everything is left better than when you found it.  Especially in the room we use across the hall.

Raffle (1-2 people)

1.       Be set up an hour before show time to begin selling tickets.

2.       Set up table with money box, tickets, raffle signs, and items to be raffled.

3.       Tickets to be sold are 3 for $1.00 or 50 cents each.

4.       Tell people what the prizes are and if there is more than one prize explain there will be more than one ticket drawn.   First ticket drawn chooses what prize they want, and so on.

5.       After intermission and the audience has been seated…ask an audience member if they would like to pull the winning ticket(s).  Announce the numbers clearly and slowly.  Check the number to make sure it is correct.  Give prize to that person.

6.      Thank everyone for participating and for coming to the show.

*During children’s shows when there are a large number of children attending, a program is given to a child but not necessarily an ad program book.
