Director Submissions 2022-2023

MCT is currently accepting submissions for our 2022-2023 season!

​

Qualifications: 

  • Director must be over 18 years of age 

  • Director must become a member of MCT prior to auditions 

  • Directors who have not worked at MCT before must submit a directing resume. 

    • If the director has no previous experience, they must have assistant directed or music directed. 

    • If the director has no previous experience whatsoever, a directing mentor and/or assistant director will be required for consideration. 
       

MCT is an all-volunteer organization and all positions and roles are unpaid.

Choosing your time slot:

  • MCT produces 5 shows per year - 3 musicals, 1 play, and 1 youth production. 

  • The spring musical is usually a smaller show without a large ensemble in March or May. The location is variable depending on cast size, scale of the production, etc. Shannondell is a possibility, as well as alternate locations.

  • The spring play is usually held in March or May. The location is variable depending on cast size, scale of the production, etc. Shannondell is a possibility, as well as alternate locations.

  • The summer musical is usually a large production with a large ensemble. MCT strives to cast as many families in this production as possible with a cast cap of 60 people. It is held at Shannondell in July. 

  • The fall musical is held at Shannondell in November. This time slot has a reputation for putting on shows with a high production value. Cast size varies but is not to exceed the 60 person cap set by Shannondell. Please note that this slot is not available every year as our House Director will be returning in 2023 and alternating years thereafter. 

  • The youth production is held in October. The cast has an age limit of 18 years old and is usually a Junior production or shorter musical. 

 

A Note on Casting: MCT does not allow pre-casting. All roles must be open for auditions.

Rehearsal Guidelines: 

  • Rehearsals begin 2 1⁄2 - 3 months prior to the show’s opening. 

  • MCT productions normally rehearse 3 times per week until tech when a more demanding schedule is expected. 

  • As we do not own our performance/rehearsal space, flexibility is of utmost importance when scheduling rehearsals. Dates, times, and locations are subject to change.

Show History: MCT prefers not to repeat a production that has occurred within the last 10 years. Please refer to our show history page.

Production Team Guidelines: 

  • Directors are encouraged to build as much of their own production team as possible prior to submission. 

  • Directors are required to have a music director and choreographer at the time of submission if requesting a musical. 

  • Directors will be required to present a full production team to the board 6 months prior to their show’s opening night. If you are having trouble filling positions, please contact the board for assistance prior to the 6 month mark. 

  • Each production requires 2 producers. One of these producers must have produced for MCT before. 

  • Directors are welcome to have co-designers but we ask that you do not exceed 2 people per position unless the board has granted you special permissions. 
     

Submission Deadline: 

  • Submit this Google form by November 12th. 

  • Each director may submit for up to 3 shows per season. 

  • Directors will be contacted for an interview by February 1st if their submission is accepted by the playreading committee for proposal to the board of directors.
