What is MCT?

Methacton Community Theater (MCT) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, community-based theater group committed to bringing low-cost family entertainment to the northern and western Montgomery County area. We perform three shows a year at Shannondell in Audubon and two shows a year, including a youth production, at the Variety Club in Worcester. We have previously performed in the Methacton School District but have since expanded to service many other local communities and school districts.

Our History

Methacton Community Theater was born in 1977, created by a group of teachers from the Methacton School District. Since then, the theater has produced over 100 musicals, comedies, and dramas for all age groups from the very young to the young at heart.

We are happy to provide an artistic outlet for everyone from the theater veteran to the enthusiastic newcomer, and have been able to feature multiple generations of actors from the same family on the stage at the same time. MCT welcomes not only those with acting and singing ability, but also those with an interest in directing, producing, lighting, sound, stage managing, and much, much more. The community has enjoyed many of our productions, including well-known shows like Beauty and the Beast, The Producers, West Side Story, The Sound of Music, Arsenic and Old Lace, and The Wizard of Oz.

Since its inception, MCT has also awarded at least one scholarship to a graduating high school student planning to continue their education and who has been active with MCT at some time now or in the past. Our scholarship recipients have performed on stage, assisted production staff, served on stage crew, played in the orchestra, and/or participated in many of the volunteer opportunities available to our membership. We are proud to support our students in their pursuit of higher education.

Why MCT?

In recent years, we noticed an increase in confusion surrounding our organization due to Methacton High School's theatre program being called the Methacton Theatre Company. Though Methacton Community Theater was founded by teachers in the Methacton School District, the theater is no longer affiliated with the high school other than being an enthusiastic supporter of their work. Methacton Community Theater has been lovingly known as MCT by it's members and the local theatre community for decades so changing our name was a no-brainer! We are still Methacton Community Theater on paper, but in our hearts, we've always been MCT!
